| "By demanding that we seek God's glory alone, God calls us to overcome the overwhelming and very natural temptation to seek our own glory. One of the greatest gifts God could possibly give us is to deliver us from our own pride. Alexander Pope referred to this as 'Pride, the never failing vice of fools.' Pride is a destroyer of ministries, marriages, friendships, jobs, and character." Beth Moore {Living Free}
I really have to say that when I look back on my life, pride has been the center of many of my problems. I did not ever want to admit that my low self esteem was equal to my pride. As pride described by the above author is "self absorption." I always thought I had humility because I had no confidence. This was a lie.
I have to admit that because of pride I have had my feelings hurt too often, my friendships weakened or lost, jealousy arising in my marriage and feelings of inferiority.....all based in pride. What a waste! God help me in this area. |
